ReMoot let you control all major multimedia applications
running on GNU/Linux and possibly other
*nix platforms as well. It
wraps around these apps and provides a unified and easy-to-use
interface
which can be accessed in many different ways. You can control
the apps from the command-line,
with a desktop widget or panel buttons,
over the web or by mapping your multimedia keyboard to it
so that you
can control all supported applications with the same keys (the way it
was always meant to work).

ReMoot plays REALLY nice with key-mapping programs like LinEAK and Keytouch or one can use KDE or Gnomes keymapping features.
